The Humans Are Winning recounts elements of Tawnya’s traumatic childhood and tumultuous early adulthood that led to her journey of self-discovery and healing. The purpose of this book is to illuminate a rich and diverse world of self-help that is available to all who are suffering. It’s filled with lessons learned and guidance for others who have experienced life-changing trauma. This is a book that’s emotionally raw yet truly inspiring—an authentic overcoming-the-odds story.

Who am I? I’m a healer—of myself and others. I’ve been a seeker all my life. Sadly, it was the dark and violent nature of my family that initially sparked what would become a lifelong curiosity. I remember asking myself at an early age, “Who are these people? Shouldn’t I be somewhere else?” I nearly lost my life the first time I shared my story.

This time I’m sharing it for those who feel like they don’t belong, to anyone or anything. I felt that way for the first half of my life, but I’m here to show you that you don’t need to continue feeling lost and alone. I’m happier now than I’ve ever been. I’ve found deep, true, and lasting love with my husband. I’ve found compassion for the echoes of my past that come up now and again. I’ve walked back through the hardest and most painful parts of my life to find peace and equilibrium in my present. I’ve found forgiveness for myself and my family for all the horrors we experienced together. Most importantly, I’ve found love and respect for myself.

"Tawnya Williams has shared a powerful and riveting truth telling of survival and resilience. This is a personal narrative about survival via awakening, willingness and creativity in the face of generations of oppression, mental illness, dispossession and familial dysfunction. A very raw and personal telling of the complexity of working with the system "health -care" and the psychologizing/ pathologizing that our current cultural paradigm places on the individual, ignoring the collective trauma we are swimming in. This is a story of the complexities of betrayal and love, of breaking apart and finding love again. A generous offering for the collective."
